

NOOR, together with the Serbian collective Kamerades and Nikon invite photographers to submit their portfolios for selection for the 2015 NOOR-Nikon Masterclass in Documentary Photography in Belgrade, Serbia.
NOOR photo agency and foundation and Nikon Europe support documentary photographers from emerging markets all over the world through the organization of annual motivational masterclasses.
The 2015 program is scheduled to take place in Belgrade, Serbia, 30 March through to 3 April 2015.
The masterclass will be accessible to young and aspiring documentary photographers and photojournalists from the following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Slovenia.
THE WORKSHOP
During the five days of the workshop, 15 participants, together with three member photographers of NOOR - Andrea Bruce, Stanley Greene and Kadir van Lohuizen - and NOOR’s managing director - Evelien Kunst - will share experiences, work on portfolios, improve editing skills and learn how to pick up and develop stories. Each day consists of intensive communication with the photographers on the subjects of technical features and the peculiarities of the international photo market. It is a unique opportunity to gain new knowledge, contacts, learn to tell stories in a visual language and develop a personal vision.
The workshop is free of charge; travel and accommodation costs will be reimbursed (possession of a passport and travel insurance is required to apply).
SUBMISSION
For submission you are required to have:
• Basic experience in documentary photography or photojournalism;
• A high level of motivation;
• English language skills (the workshop is in English);
• A good technical understanding of your camera equipment, a working knowledge of the media environment and basic image management skills.
To apply you need to send a PDF file not exceeding 6 MB including:
• A CV including your contact information and a written text explaining your work and projects. Please clarify your involvement in photography by showing a proven track record, proof of a photographic training or at least 1-year experience of practice;
• Motivation letter in English (1 page);
• A portfolio of max. 30 images with text introductions and captions (please show your story telling skills by presenting at least one picture story of 8 images).

Stern recently published a story by Yuri Kozyrev about everyday life in the the peninsula of Crimea.
After being conquered countless times throughout history, on the border of the former Soviet Union, the peninsula of Crimea, is today a famous touristic destination attracting thousands of tourists from the region and beyond. Traditional ways of life are maintained by the Crimean Tatars, while the Soviet memory is still present in its monuments and celebrations.
De Volkskrant recently published Yuri Kozyrev’s photographs from the far east of Russia, part of a road trip through this region with writer Olaf Koens.
The Lena River winds vertically through Russia. In the summer ferries carry people back and forth, and in the winter heavy trucks transport goods over the ice. But in October, when the ferries stops and the ice has not toughened yet – the city Jakoetsk and the hinterlands are in deep trouble – dividing the population and leaving people stranded on both sides of the river Lena.
Nikkel is the name of the small Russian town where nickel is extracted and processed. The air is filthy – but the population living above the polar are have become accustomed to it.
For the Financial Times' feature on "Women of 2014," Benedicte Kurzen photographed Nigerian activist Hadiza Bala Usman. Bala Usman's bid to help free the schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram turned into a global social media campaign that fast became a worldwide phenomenon.
Stern published the extensive story by Benedicte Kurzen about the threat of the jihadist sect Boko Haram for people living in Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria.

Published in Stern Magazine, Kadir van Lohuizen returned to Miami as part of his extensive work on rising sea levels. "Glimmering new buildings, dark future - the rising sea-level is causing serious problems for Miami."

On 3 October 2013, a Libyan fishing vessel carrying over 500 migrants sunk in sight of the coast of the Italian island of Lampedusa, resulting in the death of 366 migrants.
A year later Francesco Zizola photographed and filmed the wreck of the boat, which lies on the seabed 50 meters under water, its prow facing Lampedusa’s port. These pictures were made in memory of the victims.
