Fishermen of Holland

In this series, NOOR photographer Kadir van Lohuizen documents fishermen's lifestyle on the rugged mudflats of Friesland, a northwestern province of The Netherlands, where their livelihood is dependent on the intertidal ecosystems.

They work in an area which is one of the few natural UNESCO heritage sites, where there is a very sensitive and fragile balance between humans and nature in one of the most populated countries in the world.

Kadir van Lohuizen spent an extensive period of time with the shrimp fisher, the cockle, the razor blade and the mullet and the sea bass fisher. Some of them are highly mechanised, for some its a real craft and hard labour by hand.
