Nikon-NOOR Academy | Bulgaria Masterclass Overview

Between July 14 to July 18, 2019, the Nikon-NOOR Academy held the Masterclass at PhotoSynthesis in Sofia, Bulgaria. This masterclass launched the Nikon-NOOR Academy in 2019, which will later take place in Spain and Austria.

Three NOOR visual-storytellers taught the 2019 Nikon-NOOR Academy in Bulgaria. The masterclass was moderated by NOOR Digital Director Pierre Mohamed-Petit.

Arctic: New Frontier at the Festival L'Homme et la Mer

We are pleased to invite you to the Festival L'Homme et la Mer in Guilvinec, France, where the project "Arctic: New Frontier" by Kadir van Lohuizen and Yuri Kozyrev will be exhibitied. The photographers documented the irreversible impact climate change has had on the entire Arctic territory.

Announcing the 2019 Nikon-NOOR Academy

The NOOR Foundation and Nikon Europe are delighted to announce the 2019 series of Nikon-NOOR Academy Masterclasses. The first of the new series of masterclasses with free tuition will take place in Bulgaria 15-18 July, and the dates for Austria and Spain will be announced in September.

During each of the four-day trainings, 15 selected participants will work together with three NOOR authors as their tutors, to share experiences, work on portfolios, improve editing skills and learn how to create more impactful visual stories. NOOR and the NOOR Foundation are committed to encouraging aspiring photojournalists and documentary photographers. Masterclasses are provided free of charge for all participants, made possible with the continued support of Nikon Europe.

All masterclasses are open to young and emerging visual storytellers from all nationalities and locations within Europe.  We highly encourage visual storytellers from Bulgaria, Austria and Spain to apply to their local country’s masterclass.

Open to all young & emerging visual storytellers from all nationalities. We highly encourage applications from Bulgarian photographers. There are no age restrictions, however the masterclass is more suited for emerging photographers at a early/mid career stage. Applicants are required a basic knowledge of English as the masterclass will take place in English.

Workshop in Amsterdam with Kadir van Lohuizen

NOOR & iMPACT DOC are pleased to announce a two day workshop in Amsterdam with Kadir van Lohuizen, on May 11th & 12th 2019.

Participants will discuss, share & learn about the development of a long-term photographic project. Together with the participants, Kadir van Lohuizen will work on the (re)conceptualizing, sequencing, and narrowing down the series and projects. Activities will include presentations on related projects by Kadir, group reviews and editing sessions, and receiving critical and constructive feedback from Kadir.

Kadir Van Lohuizen recently tested the performance of the latest Nikon Z6 mirrorless camera, in the Norwegian Arctic!

Arctic: New Frontier is at Saatchi Gallery

Opening Friday in London at Saatchi Gallery, Arctic: New Frontier by Yuri Kozyrev and Kadir van Lohuizen! This project was the 9th laureate of the Prix Carmignac du photojournalisme, graciously supported by the Fondation Carmignac.

Arctic: New Frontier on ARTE Reportage & VPRO Backlight

Arctic: New Frontier, a pioneering double expedition by Yuri Kozyrev and Kadir van Lohuizen that explores the effects of climate change on the entire Arctic territory, is now currently available as a documentary on ARTE Reportages, and will be screened by the Dutch broadcaster VPRO Backlight on NPO 2, on March 3rd at 9:05pm.

This project has been awarded the 9th Prix Carmignac for Photojournalism, supported by the Carmignac Foundation.

The 9th Edition of the Carmignac Photojournalism Award supports an investigative photojournalism report that will shed light on the challenges facing the Arctic and that will highlight the consequences climate change might have on the planet.

In 2009, while media and photojournalism faced an unprecedented crisis, Edouard Carmignac created the Carmignac Photojournalism Award to support photographers in the field. It funds annually the production of an investigative photo reportage on human rights violations, geostrategic and environmental issues in the world.
