giancarlo ceraudo shortlisted for the sony world photography award

Giancarlo Ceraudo has been shortlisted for the Sony World Photography Awards in the Travel section for his series in Patagonia called "Cruz del Sur".

The photographs of "Cruz del Sur" represent a trip to the "end of the world": a far away place with vast horizons and honest characters.

Giancarlo Ceraudo first visited Patagonia in 1993, and came back later as a photographer, between 2003 and 2005. This was a journey through "the uttermost part of the earth", a stretch of land at the Southern tip of South America where bandits were once welcomed and Charles Darwin formed part of his "survival of the fittest" theory.

Patagonia is a place that still retains the exotic mystery of a far-off, unseen land but is inhabited by a tough and sturdy population which struggles in this hostile environment.

Giancarlo captured this sturdiness and wilderness in his photographs.
