consequences by noor



From the frontiers of climate change comes a photographic project by NOOR. "Consequences by NOOR" examines and exhibits the environmental, societal and economic impact of melting glaciers in Greenland, rising sea levels in the Maldives and Southeast Asia, drought, famine and civil war in Darfur, pine beetle destruction in the forests of British Columbia, oil sand mining in Alberta, ranching and deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon, coal mining in Poland and melting permafrost in Siberia.
The new work by Nina Berman, Philip Blenkinsop, Pep Bonet, Jan Grarup, Stanley Greene, Yuri Kozyrev, Kadir van Lohuizen, Jon Lowenstein and Francesco Zizola premiers at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December. Please click the images to access the "Consequences by NOOR"-blog for an introduction.

motörhead



While Motörhead is typically classified as heavy metal or speed metal, singer Lemmy Kilmister has refused such labels, preferring to describe Motörhead's style simply as "rock and roll."  The band's approach has remained the same over the band's career and still does about 150 shows every year. Pep Bonet followed the band intimitely on their European tour this year. 


drugs in afghanistan



An estimate one million Afghans, of a population of 25 million, are addicted to heroine and opium. Yuri Kozyrev registered the destruction and usage of opiates in Afghanistan near the village Narmangob, northern Afghanistan and the center of Kabul that is now the home for hundreds of drug addicts.

exhibitions and events



On 5 November World Press Photo launches the book "Touch" that displays the photo essays on this theme from the participants of the Joop Swart Masterclass in Amsterdam. Philip Blenkinsop was one of the masters this week.

From 5 until 8 November Kadir van Lohuizen's exhibition "Diamond Matters" will be shown in the Amsterdam venue Westergasfabriek during the art fair called 'Het Sieraad'.

In the Kunstraum in Potsdam, Germany the exhibition "Blindspot: Nina Berman and Christoph Bangert - Bilder eines Krieges" is on show until 6 December. It shows images from Nina's Purple Heart series.

The exhibition "Ombre di Guerra – Shadows of war" exhibition with images from Francesco Zizola, Stanley Greene and Philip Blenkinsop is opening 20 November in the Rotonda di Via Besana in Milan.

Francesco Zizola will be hosting a two-day workshop in Rome on 21 and 22 November at 10B studio and gallery.

World Press Photo
is preparing for its 2010 edition, and this year has chosen for different juries to judge different sections. Yuri Koyrev will be part of the news and documentary jury.
