A selection of images taken during the first three months - March, April and May - of the Iraqi war in 2003.

born somewhere

"Né Quelque Part / Born Somewhere" portrays the lives of children in 27 countries. Francesco Zizola has spent the last 13 years documenting the condition of children around the world. From countries racked with war, like Angola, the Sudan, Afghanistan and Iraq, to child laborers in Brazil and Indonesia, to Aids orphans in Mozambique and Kenya - from the alienated children of privilege in Japan, to the young entrepreneurs and actors of New York and Los Angeles.

ruas

Every six hours a child dies on the streets of Brazil. The "menino de rua" (child of the street) is the symbol of Brazil’s degradation. There are around 12 million street children in Brazil. These children are reflections of “civil society’s” cruelty to its most fragile members… The photographs in this selection were taken in Brazil between 1992 and 1994.
