“Shadowland consists of images of people who let me into their lives precisely when living was most painful. They portray people in difficult circumstances- but they are nonetheless relevant to all of us, because they document the times in which we live. They represent my attempt to keep the stories of these people alive, and to show that behind all the news stories we see every day, those who live and die in the middle of conflicts and catastrophes are real people. People who do not merely deserve our sympathy, but demand our attention. Shadowland is the testimony of people caught up in events they cannot make sense of.”
